photoSt. Paul's missionary journeys took him great distances. From Syria through Turkey, and along the Greek coast, as he spread the good news in rich trading centers on his prayerful missions. In the shadows of the Parthenon, St. Paul addressed the people of Athens about the "Unknown God." Follow in his footsteps and retrace the roots of early Christianity. Visit Ephesus, where St. Paul made his Asia Minor headquarters for two years. Visit Patmos, which is known as the site of the Revelation of St. John Divine. Cruise to Rhodes, Heraklion, Santorini, Delphi and Corinth. This historical and spiritual tour will give you a new perspective on the Church, as you learn about its earliest days, and the lives of the first Christians.

12-Day Itinerary

Day 1 | Tuesday | Depart for Greece

Day 2 | Wednesday | Arrive Athens

Day 3 | Thursday | Athens

Today, you will enjoy a tour of Athens. The most famous site in Greece, the Parthenon on the Acropolis in Athens will amaze you! Visit Mars Hill from which St. Paul spoke to the men of Athens. See Temple of Zeus, Royal Palace, Syndagma Square, Memorial to the Unknown Soldiers, Arch of Hadrian, Hadrian’s Wall, Olympic Complex of 2004 Games, and the Academy University National Library. Optional: Present a concert at the Cathedral or St. Paul Church in Piraeus.

Day 4 | Friday | Seven-Day Greek Island & Turkey Aegean Cruise

All Aboard! This afternoon, your cruise ship departs from Piraeus Harbor for the Dardanelles Strait to Istanbul.

Day 5 | Saturday | Cruise Dardanelles Strait to Istanbul

Approaching Istanbul, Turkey by sea is a treat for the eyes! The graceful minarets of countless mosques and magnificent architecture make for an impressive backdrop. Arrive at your destination early this evening.

Day 6 | Sunday | Istanbul

Today, you will enjoy a full day sightseeing tour of the Ottoman highlights. The “Blue Mosque”—so-called because of the glorious azure tiles that adorn its interior—will be your first stop. Visit the Saint Sophia Museum, which represents the influence of Christianity and Islam. Tour the Hippodrome, one of the oldest sites in Istanbul, and visit the Imperial Topkapi Palace. Celebrate Mass at St. Anthony Church. Later, enjoy a shopping (or browsing!) excursion at the Grand Bazaar.

Day 7 | Monday | Cruise to Mykonos – Evening Sail to Patmos

Following an overnight journey, you will arrive at Mykonos this afternoon. Though it has numerous shops and clubs, the island is also replete with awe-inspiring landscape dotted with chapels, sheep and even windmills. Enjoy your day at leisure, exploring your preferred activities.

Day 8 | Tuesday | Patmos – Kusadasi/Ephesus

This morning, you will arrive at Patmos, where St. John wrote the Book of Revelation. Visit the Monastery of St. John and the cave where he lived. This afternoon, arrive in Kusadasi and travel to Ephesus and explore the best preserved of the Seven Churches of Revelation, where St. Paul’s made Ephesus his headquarters. Visit the ancient city with its marble streets, impressive temples and a theater that seats 24,000. You will also celebrate Mass at the House of the Virgin Mary.

Day 9 | Wednesday | Cruise to Rhodes

Today, you will be welcomed to Rhodes Island. Enjoy the charm of the brilliant sun, the crystal seas and the rich history of the Old Town of Rhodes. Celebrate Mass at the Cathedral in Rhodes. Explore the medieval fortress of the Knights of St. John. Visit the restored acropolis of Lindos, which boasts a magnificent view of St. Paul’s Bay.
Present a formal concert aboard the cruise ship.

Day 10 | Thursday | Cruise to Heraklion (Crete), Santorini

Your nautical journey continues to the Isle of Heraklion. See the archaeological ruins of the Palace of Knossos and its unearthed treasures. The Isle of Santorini is breathtaking, and believed by some to be the site of the lost city of Atlantis.

Day 11 | Friday | Piraeus – Corinth & Cenchreae - Athens

Dock early this morning at Piraeus for a guided tour of Corinth. See the Corinth Canal—one of the Seven Wonders of the Modern World—and visit the Temple of Apollo, the Roman Agora, the Bema where Paul was brought before Gallio, the pavement inscription of Erastus, the Roman Lechaion Road and the lower Fountain of Peirene. Celebrate Mass outdoors. Pass through the Lion Gate of Mycenae and continue on to Cenchreae, the port from which St. Paul sailed to Ephesus. This evening, enjoy your farewell dinner and a Greek floorshow.

Day 12 | Saturday | Return from Athens
